Windows 7 + IE8 + Integrated Authentication=Account lockout

I had been experiencing problem with windows authentication on local intranet sites. Whenever I try to use these sites, browser will pop up the log on window, providing valid credentials will again and again get me the logon popup screen and I always ended up locking my domain account.

I managed to use Firefox for some sites. But not all the sites were working properly with Firefox. After too much of frustration with account lockouts and calling up help desk to unlock my domain account, finally I put an end to the hell of windows integrated authentication issue with Internet Explorer 8 on windows 7.

Here is the fix it worked for me.

Make the following two entries in the registry under the key HKEY_Local_Machine\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\LSA

Add name SuppressExtendedProtection of type DWORD with value 1

Add name LmCompatibilityLevel of type DWORD with value 3

Hopefully someone will benefit out of this blog entry.

Windows 7 boots much faster than IPod Touch and Nokia N73

I am sure that Microsoft Windows 7 is much faster than its predecessors. Recently I realized that my laptop with Windows 7 operating system starts up much faster and available for use instantly, but Apple IPod Touch takes few more seconds to start up. It's definitely a remarkable change from the desktop operating systems.

If I compare Apple IPod Touch with my year old N73 Nokia mobile, definitely IPod is 10 times faster. Yeah N73 takes almost 4 minutes to start up and another 30 seconds to settle down and ready to use, though only 25% of the memory used.

Only Google knows usage of JavaScript and CSS

I finally got access to Google wave through one of my friends. I am stunned to preview Google wave!!!. Google has exploited JavaScript and Cascaded Style Sheet (CSS) features/flexibilities. Tremendous work…

Unfortunately I could not select my user name in Google wave, it automatically took my user name and mail id, I have no control over it .

Finally got Windows 7 RTM

Finally the long waited windows 7 RTM on my laptop. I have been using windows RC for quite a long time after a windows vista.

Windows 7 is definitely much better than its predecessor window XP or Windows Vista and also faster which had never been in any of windows series. More over it is stable.

Hoping, I will continue to have the same experience with Windows 7, not like other operating systems fading away over the time by performance.

Missed Miss Bangalore 2009 Event

Today I checked my yahoo mail spam folder to know that I got an invitation for Miss Bangalore contest held on 31st October 2009, definitely not to be a contestant thoughJ.

For the past two days I was checking my mails through iPod which did not fetch my yahoo mails in Spam folderL.

Hope I will be making it for the next time.

Alps touchpad setup on dell laptop

The long struggled problem has come to an end this morning. Yeah, I had a problem in installing touchpad driver on my laptop Dell latitude E6400 with windows xp service pack 3 operating system. After searching on google with different keywords, finally I found a way to overcome the issue. Yes… its working nowJ.

Just rename or remove the file wdf01000.sys located at %systemroot%\system32\drivers\. Now run the setup, it will get installed successfully. I am not sure why dell is not fixing this issue.

Hope this helps somebody.

Its worth buying an Apple IPod Touch

I recently purchased an Apple IPod Touch 2nd generation device with 16GB storage capacity. I really like its cool features. It's my first experience on Apple products. I have explored Unix, Linux and Windows series of operating systems and applications a bit on Mac.

Despite some criticism on Microsoft products, I always wondered about Microsoft products about the product usability. But apple proved it to be wrong about my perception. The usability of the device or applications is awesome.

I always thought handheld devices are not a good option to watch movies or reading news/books as it has got very small screen. But Ipod touch has again proved it's not alwaysJ, may be at the cost of its price. It is worth having one.

My review goes here

Some of the features I liked.

Definitely the touch effect with zoom in, zoom out and panning

Slim and weightless

Quick recharge

Bigger screen

Wi-Fi, I browse, I chat, I mail and I do more with IPod touch while watching TV

Most or all of the handheld devices with touch screen require stylus for a better user experience, IPhone/IPod Touch do not require

Immediate response, not like MS or Symbion applications

On screen keypad with key preview

Lens to view the selected text bigger to edit

Too many free applications available on AppStore

Some I do not like or can be improved

Even though it's meant for music and video, there are no buttons available on the device or on headphone to navigate to the next/previous/pause/play track which most of the music players have got and a basic requirement. Usability lost here. If the user has kept the device in his/her pocket, the device should be taken out to change the track.

To use or activate IPod Touch, it should be connected to a computer with ITunes installed

Credit card information even to register in AppStore

New device with outdated operating system

Operating system upgrade costs the user

No out of the box technique to copy files apart from media files, need to rely on third party applications

Cannot be used as a file storage device

Microphone should be purchased separately

Device cost, its bit expensive

Not everyone can unpack the Box, it requires some IQ ;) and also some of the pieces come along. Usability completely lost hereL. I had to google to know usage of the pieces packed along and found too many posts on it, I think there should be a user guide on it J. Its real fun but.

Will Zune compete IPod?, I know Microsoft is closely watching their competitor.

Steve, please do not curse Microsoft if they come up with better product than this. It's obvious that If one wants to survive in the market, they should always compare with others and produce better products, sometimes it looks like copying from others and sometimes its true. It happens in any industry. Innovation always wins the race. I know Apple is good at innovation. Its long way to go for Microsoft to beat this space.

Soon I can expect an ad in apple website, which compares IPod and Zune as it does for its Mac and PC here http://www.apple.com/getamac/ads/
